Michael J. Wheeler

An associate of The PLK Law Group, PC., Michael J. Wheeler specializes in the areas of Intellectual Property, Entertainment Law, and Business and Contract Law. Mr. Wheeler is highly experienced in trademark prosecution and enforcement before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. He has also acquired substantial expertise in the enforcement of copyrights, patents, and trade secrets. Possessing adept skills in analyzing current intellectual property trends, Mr. Wheeler provides complete client protection through drafting licensing, service, and non-disclosure agreements.

Mr. Wheeler also has broad knowledge in business law, including business formation and dissolution, and has negotiated deals for employee severance packages and commercial real estate ventures. Additionally, Mr. Wheeler has proven litigation experience in the formulation of strategy, general motion practice, and oral advocacy. His litigation experience ranges from employment disputes involving large retail chains and pharmaceutical companies, to trademark disputes with multi-media conglomerates. Most recently, he has been involved in complex, high profile trademark litigation involving counterfeiting and reverse confusion.

Additionally, Mr. Wheeler also strikes the balance between legal and creative as he also has acute skills in brand creation and management, and he has crafted proposals, presentations, and innovative strategies to close television, modeling, and advertising deals, product and service licensing contracts, and mascot promotions.

In law school, Mr. Wheeler interned at a consulting firm where he cultivated business opportunities for international clients. He also interned at a Chicago law firm where he prepared arguments leading to the successful litigation of a computer software licensing agreement. Mr. Wheeler was also a member of the Seton Hall Law Moot Court Board and successfully competed on the school’s nationally recognized moot court team. As he began in law school, Mr. Wheeler currently volunteers as a mentor and debate coach with the New Jersey Law and Education Empowerment Project (NJLEEP), helping to build skills and character for New Jersey’s urban youth.

Mr. Wheeler holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Asian Studies from Northwestern University, and he received his J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law with an Intellectual Property Concentration. Mr. Wheeler has studied business and intellectual property law all over the world, including programs in Japan, China, Egypt, Belgium, and Ireland. Mr. Wheeler is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York.
