As an associate at The PLK Law Group, Adraea M. Brown primarily practices in the areas of Intellectual Property, Entertainment, and Business and Contract Law.
Ms. Brown is highly skilled in the protection and enforcement of copyrights, trademarks, patents, and trade secrets. She actively prosecutes trademarks and service marks in the United States Patent and Trademark Office and defends marks before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, helping the firm to maintain its 100% trademark approval rate. Ms. Brown also actively prosecutes copyrights and packages trade secrets. She defends all types of intellectual property against infringement and misuse.
From an Entertainment Law perspective, Ms. Brown has experience in negotiating and drafting recording, production, agent, and artist investment agreements. With over 18 years of music experience, she understands the needs of musicians and offers creative insight in analyzing, securing, and enforcing their rights.
Ms. Brown also services the particular needs of each business client such as drafting, negotiating, and enforcing contractual agreements, including operating agreements, venture agreements, and shareholder agreements. She also protects business owners against personal liability by forming and registering specific business entity types to fit the needs of each individual client.
While in law school, Ms. Brown clerked for the Hon. Milton S. Wharton in the 20th Circuit Court of Illinois, where she assisted in the drafting of judicial opinions and orders, and she also interned for a non-profit company where she worked closely with the general counsel to protect the company’s intellectual property portfolio. Additionally, Ms. Brown was a member of the Pierce Law Moot Court Advisory Board and competed in the national Cardozo/BMI Entertainment and Communications Law Moot Court Competition.
Ms. Brown received her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Franklin Pierce Law Center in Concord, New Hampshire (now the University of New Hampshire School of Law), and her Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in Political Science from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia along with the honor of being inducted into The Phi Beta Kappa Society. She was also a member of the world-renowned Spelman College Glee Club. Ms. Brown is admitted to practice in New Jersey.
